Before the class starts:
If you have a smart phone, Download SCVNGR app on your smart phone.
Today we’ll continue our 5 day exploration of tools that support communication and collaboration.
PART I: NETS on Communication and Collaboration
We’ll need to review the National Educational Technology Standard (NETS) on Communication and Collaboration first:

Students use digital media and environments to communicate and work collaboratively, including at a distance, to support individual learning and contribute to the learning of others.

a. Interact, collaborate, and publish with peers, experts, or others employing a variety of digital environments and media

b. Communicate information and ideas effectively to multiple audiences using a variety of media and formats

c. Develop cultural understanding and global awareness by engaging with learners of other cultures

d. Contribute to project teams to produce original works or solve problems

Let’s watch a video of a classroom project that focuses on communication and collaboration. What elements of the NETS do you see in the video?

PART 2: Socrative: Collaborative Quiz Making
This time you are going to be the teacher who creates the quiz for your students. Your students are your classmates.  Every teacher (You) creates one question from the reading of Communication and Collaboration (Egbert, Ch3) and add to our collaborative question making effort.
1. Sign Up on socrative.com.
2. On your dashboard (Main screen), click on “Manage Quizzes.”
3. Click on “Import Quiz.”
4. Click on “Import Shared Quiz.”
5. Enter the quiz number: SOC-1948291 and click on “Import quiz.”
6.Create ONE multiple choice question.
7. At the beginning of the question, add your name so I know you create the question.
8. Mark the correct answer and add explanation.
9. Save.
*Do not check: “Enable Sharing” unless you want to share with someone outside this class on your individual purposes.
Part 3: Aderhold Scavenger Hunt
As we work on tools, we will need to know our surroundings and where we can get help. To get you familiar with the resources provided in Aderhold, we will play Aderhold Scavenger Hunt.  It is a collaborativ game. Your table is your team. Your team shares a common goal of winning this game. Everyone should participate and I need to see evidence.
First, download SCVNGR app on your smart phone. If you don’t have smart phone, don’t worry. You need one phone for your team.
I will use the images to explain how this goes.
